I'm only been in Collinsville for nearly 3 years and really
like the town. my son and daughter-in-law have live here for many years with my three grandsons.Ienjoy knitting and crocheting ,I'm teaching myself to do patchwork.I've 16 grandchildren and one greatgrandson and another one on the way.

The Travellers...

Hi my name is Colin,
I'm a newly signed up citizen although I arrived in Aussie in 59. Then when coming from the old country you had all the rights of a citizen without asking! I came to work in Woomera as a technician and after 5 yrs off and on I moved to Adelaide where I met and eventually married Margaret. 6 children,16 grandkids and1 greatgrandson later I have finaly settled in this great country. There seems to be so much to see and do that I'm sure that 2 or 3 lifetimes will never be enough to satisfy me. So we have to make the most of our oportunities while we can.

I was born in Collinsville, but moved south as a young child.
I have recently returned to Collinsville with my husband Peter.

There's life in the old grey mare yet!!!

Hi my name is Jean,
I’m 92 years old and am really enjoying having sue and the girls explain things about the computers.
It is something that I had never heard of as a young girl.
I enjoy coming down in the mornings,
the minds is active but the body struggles with the trip.
I’m from the Hillside Haven Aged Care Facility.

Jean's story

Hi my name is Jean
I came to Collinsville in 1946 from a small mining town Ogmore. We were housed in huts on Red Hill, no one owned a car and the roads were all dirt. Everybody in the town at that time worked in the mines, my husband went to the Scottville mine, so eventually we were able to shift to Scottville to live in a proper house. At that time you had to build your own homes and everybody pitched in and helped one another, and that is how the houses got built in Scottville, those were the good days. Here in Collinsville/Scottville there is a tradition of having a Miners ‘Christmas Tree’ were all the children whom parents worked in the mines would receive a gift, a bag of lollies and an ice-cream at Christmas. This was first started by myself and the ladies and men in Scottville, so the kids could have something to look forward to. My how things have changed I am now at the Telecentre learning how to use computers with all the other Collinsville seniors. We all have so many memories to share. I love learning about this technology although it is sometimes confusing to an 80 year old, but all in good time. I am thank-full for the staff who help and are always patient.

Fancy Fay...

Hello, this is Fay,
I am one of the senior, senior citizens trying to improve my knowledge of computers. I say "senior senior" as I am one of the white haired brigade.
I have created an e-mail account, surfed the Internet, played games and have made a few new friends.
I am interested in learning more about digital photography and how to enhance photos.
I enjoy the company of the younger generation who are assisting Sue at the centre.
Hope to talk to you again soon. tata... toodle-loo... catch ya later...
bye bye
Fay

Greetings from Denise

Hello All,
My name is Denise and I am now a senior citizen (but still trying to avoid the grey hair)!!
I wonder how I had the time to go to work – I’m on the committee for the Telecentre & Hillside Haven Aged Care Facility and enjoy delivering Meals on Wheels - it’s lovely to make contact with some of our older community members. I’m also involved in our local church.
We have been having a great time at the Telecentre each week at the Senior’s Sessions. Sue and the staff are so helpful and p a t i e n t … with us oldies. They also provide a lovely morning tea. We are grateful for the funding that has enabled the Telecentre to do this for us.
We have been learning some new tricks but computers definitely have a mind of their own!
Cheers, Denise

Norrien alias Nana

Hi my name is Norrien,
I have been coming to these senior sessions
and really enjoying them.
I went into Google Earth
and found the little town I was born in
and the actual road where I lived
for the first 16 years of my life.
I have now been living in Australia
for the past 55 years.
I am a member of the local Lions club and have been with the Meals on Wheels for 27 years. My next mission is to master these computers.
