Denise delving into her Laptop!

Hi,

My name is Denise and I have lived in Collinsville since 2003, my husband was born in Collinsville and we lived in Bowen for 40 years before coming BACK!!.

The sign at the entrance to the town which says “The town you always return to” certainly applied to us!!

With regular visits to family etc. over the years the town has always been an extension of home to us so moving back was no hardship. Although we have sold our home here, and are going to travel this beautiful country of ours, we are still coming back to spend six months every year when we can. Our daughter and grandson live here & Collinsville is still our permanent address and will remain so for as long as possible.

We have seen so many changes in the town over the years.
The building of the Powerhouse which my husband worked on & then sadly seeing it close down years later and the joy of having it re commissioned again. Also the erection of many housing commission houses which he had sub-contracted with a builder to erect then helped some friends remove these same houses. It was sad when the fortunes of the town took a downturn and many people sold up and left the district. Now the place is booming again and it’s wonderful to see all the new faces in town and hopefully, in time, many more families. Through all these changes one thing has remained constant and that’s the friendliness of the people. We have just returned from a year of traveling and it’s been the one thing we missed. It’s great to be home again!!

I tried to find a similar little seniors computer group to help me with this contrary machine in many of the places we visited, but the Telecentre is quite unique. Thank you so much to the dedicated band of people here at Collinsville Seniors Computer Group, led by our ever patient tutor Sue. I have learnt so much over the last few years, including how to use a program to get all my old cassette tapes onto my computer and turn them into mp3 discs to play in the car etc and also scanning photos to the computer and doing all sorts of magical things with them. Thank you again.

John "Burns" his way around the Web

Hi, I’m John.
I came to Collinsville in 1982 when Mount Isa Mines went into exporting coal and expanded their operations here.
I enjoy coming to the Telecentre on Wednesdays with other seniors and Sue, our Teacher, is trying to teach an old dog some new tricks!

Lorraines loggin in...

Marilyn's sorting her photo's...

I came to the Telecentre because we are traveling and working our way around the country and needed to learn how to set up our laptop photo site so we can send updates of our travels to friends and family.
We have nine Grandchildren so it’s nice to be able to keep photos they send us too.
We are enjoying our adventure and would recommend it to anyone who is thinking of doing so. We love the freedom and meeting people from all walks of life, we avoid the cities as the real people are in the many small towns we come to and if you need to work there are plenty of jobs, even for the Grey nomads.

Peters page...

Hi name is Peter,
I think it is marvelous playing with computers, learning things, and writing letters which eventually may lead to the big bug, like getting onto Temptation :-]

Denises' latest...

I’m enjoying being back at the Seniors Sessions on Wednesdays. I had been absent for quite some time due to family & community commitments. You know how it is – you miss a few times and then you get out of the habit, I guess.

Mainly I come to clear my emails and to look up information on the Internet.

However, these sessions are a great opportunity to learn new skills and to receive help with those annoying I.T. problems that come up all the time….. we all know that computers have a mind of their own & don’t necessarily agree with you! Also it is a good opportunity to catch up with the other regulars who attend each week.

Sue and the Collinsville Connect Staff, including the volunteers, are very patient and helpful to us Seniors………..and they reassure us that no questions are stupid!!

These sessions are an amazing free service available to the Collinsville Senior Citizens and I would encourage everyone to take advantage of them.

Cheers & God bless us all,

Denise

Hooray for Hazel!!!

Hi this is Hazel Steel,
Its great to have this Telecentre in
Collinsville and the senior’s day is really good.We seniors have to learn this modern stuff, young members of the family don’t write letters any more. It has been wonderful to write and receive emails from all my Grandchildren, they live so far away in Melbourne Sydney and Moura.
It is also very pleasing to meet everyone at the Telecentre every Wednesday.
I am 79 and I have lived in Collinsville for 6o years and it’s great to learn a few modern things on the computer.
I am having lots of fun.
Hazel
